The Risk Management in Action Workshop
Monday 11 October 2004 to Monday 18 October 2004 |
 |
Are you struggling with your risk management plan?
You have heard about R v Andersen but what are the practical implications of the appeal? You know you need a risk management plan. But where do you start? How do you know you will get it right? How detailed does it need to be?
These are the type of comments and questions asked of us all the time. That’s why we have designed the Risk Management in Action Workshop – a workshop specifically designed to get you started on your risk management plan and walk you through the process of completing it.
Has your risk management plan gone into the too hard basket?
When faced with the prospect of writing a risk management plan most people are overwhelmed. It seems like a huge mountain to climb with no end in sight. What we do is split the process into manageable blocks. It is by putting these smaller blocks together that you end up with a completed plan. Here’s what one previous delegate had to say:
Risk management was far too hard for our sport to bother with until we came to this workshop. The presenters gave clear presentations of what risk management is about and it helped us greatly to get together in smaller groups to put the plan together. We realised that broken down into smaller plans risk management wasn’t such a huge task. This is an up and coming issue which many of our clubs are ignoring and if they were presented with this topic in the way you have they would understand and maybe implement it!
Expect to work hard
This isn’t a boring seminar where you come away with information which you forget the next day. The object of this workshop is to get you started on your risk management plan and, depending on how much work you are prepared to put into it, walk away with a completed plan. So be prepared to work!
The workshop is held over two evenings and there will be homework to complete for the second session. But if you think that sounds too much like hard work here is what one previous delegate had to say:
Before I came to the workshop I knew it was going to be hard work and I wasn’t disappointed, but not only that I enjoyed it. The best thing about the workshop was that it was a hands on approach that dealt with real life. To have started our risk management plan was a big step for us. We have already started to change the way we do things and initiate a culture of safety. I would recommend this workshop so other people can start the journey we have begun and make their activity safer for all.
Who should attend?
The workshop is designed for anybody responsible for risk management in their sport, activity or club. So whether you are a sports events organiser, activity organiser, club officer, coach, or sports administrator you will get valuable help from this workshop.
What do you get?
The workshop consists of two evenings of 2-2.5 hour duration run by three experts in their field, during which you will :
Receive summary of your legal liability in New Zealand sport, including detail on the Crimes Act and Health and Safety in Employment Act;
Be taught the process of building your own risk management plan;
Receive a risk management plan template from which to build your own plan;
Be given an explanation of your insurance options;
Be taught how to make an application for insurance cover and what documents you will need;
Carry out a legal liability case study;
Receive personalised guidance in putting together your plan;
Be given opportunities to ask questions relevant to your situation.
However, the best part of the workshop is that it is presented in lay man’s terms. Here is what one delegate said:
I only used to pay lip service to risk management but now my eyes have been opened to compliance requirements. The best thing about the Risk Management in Action Workshop was that it was presented in lay man’s terms. The workshop is an essential tool to ensure the safe running of a sports organisation and I would definitely recommend it.
How much?
If you were to consult with us on an individual basis to put together a risk management plan it would cost you in the order of $2000. The template and information you get from the workshop, not including our time, costs approximately $200. However, the workshop is a fraction of the cost. Prices for individual workshops vary depending on whether outside sponsorship is obtained but the cost to you will never be more than $90 for both evenings and all the material.
Thanks to the support of Pak n Save in Pukekohe and Counties Manukau Sport, our Pukekohe workshop is just $62 or $50 is you register before 29 September 2004. To register now click here.
Why do we make it so cheap? Simply because we want to reach as many people as possible with this information. As one previous delegate put it:
I definitely would recommend it and wish everyone in our organisation could attend. Everyone involved in sport needs to be aware of the need for a risk management plan. Unfortunately there are a lot of groups blissfully unaware. My only question is: how can you make contact with every person involved in sport to offer your seminar?
Our money back guarantee
If you are worried that the workshop may be of no use to you then we do offer a money back guarantee if you think after the workshop that this is the case. So even if you have started writing your risk management plan we believe the workshop will be of great use. That’s what one delegate found:
When we came to the workshop we actually found out that we were doing quite with our risk management planning. However, the workshop did help us to identify our shortcomings. It gave us a better understanding of how to put things together, the availability of insurance, and the importance of training our volunteers. We would definitely recommend it.
When is the next workshop and how do I register?
The next workshop is in Pukekohe run in conjunction with Counties Manukau Sport. The dates are 11 and 18 October. To register click here.
Another workshop is planned for later in the year with North Harbour Sport. Dates will be announced soon.
