How we can help

SRMG protects you from the consequences of legal liability

Around the world, sports events organisers, coaches, officials, athletes and sports administrators are being sued for failing to take proper care to ensure the safety of others involved in sport, including spectators. Increasingly, civil and criminal responsibility, coupled with rising insurance premiums are demanding higher standards of care.

In many countries, however, sport is under funded and the danger is that either inadequate care is taken or sport goes on the decline as more and more people refuse to participate in sport. What started out as a game could turn into a legal war.

The three pieces of the jigsaw: legal education, risk management, and insurance

To avoid a legal war and minimise accidents in your sport, you need 3 pieces of the risk management jigsaw: legal education, risk management initiatives and insurance. But where do you go for help when faced with the prospect of writing a risk management plan? Do you really know what to put in it? What is your legal liability? What insurance is available to cover those unforeseen events?

SRMG is an alliance of three New Zealand businesses specifically set up to address these issues:

Sportscounsel

Sportsrisk

Sportssure

This web site is designed to give you continuous education about legal, risk management and insurance issues.

What's the catch?

Sometimes people ask why we give so much valuable information free on this website. The answer is simple. The three people responsible for SRMG are passionate about sport. Being passionate about sport means that we want to see sport grow and prosper worldwide. We recognise the cultural significance of sport and don’t want to see sport die in the courtroom.

That is why the information in the Articles, and the Red Card newsletter, will be extremely comprehensive, but always free. We have other products, risk management templates and workshops that you may like to buy, to increase your knowledge, but the Free advice will always be FREE.

If you doubt it, even for a second, here is just one testimonial from a reader like you. This will alleviate your fear about having to search further for another website.

I think you guys are doing a great job. I don't care much about the politics of disqualified athletes etc but the info on Sport Management (especially Risk and Health and Safety stuff) is invaluable. And for others I would say it is reversed (like the politics, don't care for the management). Keep up the great work - I'm off to read this issue now.

The purpose of this website

Before we set up this website we searched for another site which contained a comprehensive selection of risk management templates for a variety of sports and which provided education about legal liability, risk management and insurance. We didn’t really find what we wanted. So, the reason we set up this website was to make sure you get the best possible information on legal liability, risk management and insurance under one roof (so to speak).

So, if you've been trolling through the internet, and you're tired of drawing a blank, your search will end here. This will be the website that will give you comprehensive information sourced from experts in their field.

How to Navigate this site

In this site you will find lots of information and also information about services, seminars, workshops and products which SRMG offers. We suggest that first you read the various free articles which are open to public viewing. ONLY THEN should you register for the Gold Medal Club. This entitles you to access to the remaining articles housed on the Sportscounsel web site and Red Card, the monthly newsletter of the Sportscounsel Group. The newsletter is free but it is not a hastily put together document. Each newsletter contains information which has been researched, is fun to read, and is very useful.

Three reasons why you should subscribe to the Gold Medal Club

Reason 1: There are no pop ups. That alone should clue you in.
Reason 2: We have testimonials for the newsletter. People before you have tested it and found it to be extremely good value. In the first four months of its existence over 100 people subscribed for the Gold Medal Club – they can’t all be wrong.
Reason 3: Only some articles are open for public viewing. The rest require Gold Medal Club membership.

Here is what one subscriber said about the newsletter:

Although I'm not strictly your target audience I read every word. There is no other newsletter like it in New Zealand covering those issues and I think it is spot on
